THE COVER name of an undercover police officer who spied on City of London Anti-Apartheid Group was released by the spycops inquiry yesterday.

“Mark Kerry” spied on the the group, as well as the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), between 1988 and 1992.

Kerry is the third spycop confirmed by the inquiry to have infiltrated anti-apartheid groups: “Stewart Goodman” infiltrated the Anti-Apartheid Movement between 1970-1 before “Michael Scott” took over between 1971-6.

The Guardian has previously reported on Special Branch files which reveal the Anti-Apartheid Movement was infiltrated by the Met’s Special Demonstration Squad between 1969 and 1995.

The inquiry also named “Colin Clark,” who infiltrated the SWP and the Anti-Nazi League between 1977 and 1982, “Barry Tompkins,” who spied on the Spartacist League between 1979 and 1983, and “Timothy Spence” of the Stoke Newington and Hackney Defence Campaign in the 1980s.

“Alan Nixon,” who spied on the Irish Solidarity Campaign and International Marxist Group between 1969 and 1972, also had his cover name revealed.
