WEST HAM were left wondering what might have been, after Manchester United grabbed a last-minute equaliser, in this closely contested game at the London Stadium.

The equaliser came a minute after Callum Wilson spurned the chance to wrap up the game, when put clear by Ollie Scholes.

United keeper Senne Lammens blocked Wilson’s effort.

The value of the save became apparent, immediately afterwards as play switched to the other end.

There, Bryan Mbeumo’s cross was met first time by Benjamin Sesko, rifling home into the net.
The wonder was that Sesko had only been used as a late substitute.

Earlier, West Ham went ahead, when Jarrod Bowen broke down the right to cross for Tomas Soucek to flick home at the near post
It looked like United had equalised, when Casemiro headed home but his effort was judged off side by VAR.

United also came close to scoring when Joshua Zirkzee headed a cross from Bruno Fernandez wide.

In the first half the teams had largely cancelled each other out. Luke Shaw having a shot cleared off the line by Aaron Wan Bissaka. Meanwhile, Crysencio Summerville saw his curling effort pushed wide by Lammens.

West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo was disappointed with the result but felt the overall effort was positive. “We have to keep on going,” said Espirito Santo, who paid tribute to the fans. “The atmosphere was huge and we are going to need them to the end of the season.”
