Just Stop Oil activists continue their protest for a second day on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, which links Kent and Essex and which remains closed for traffic, after it was scaled by two climbers from the group
TWO supporters of Just Stop Oil remained on top of the M25 Dartford crossing today, forcing its closure for well over 24 hours.
The protesters climbed onto the masts of the busy Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, connecting Essex and Kent, at 5am on Monday morning.
The action is part of the Just Stop Oil group’s ongoing campaign of disruption aimed at pressing the government to halt all new gas and oil licences.
One of the bridge occupiers, Morgan Trowland, 39, who is a bridge design engineer from London, said: “Our government has enacted suicidal laws to accelerate oil production, killing human life and destroying our environment.
“I can’t challenge this madness in my desk job, designing bridges, so I’m taking direct action, occupying the QEII bridge until the government stops all new oil.”
It came as 30 activists from the same protest group blocked the A4 at Barons Court Tube station in central London by sitting in the road. The Metropolitan Police said it had made 27 arrests.
