Guehi relishes FA Cup final chance with Man City
Man City's Marc Guehi, January 24, 2026

MARC GUEHI believes his extraordinary recent FA Cup journey captures the unpredictability of his football career.

The Manchester City centre-back captained Crystal Palace to victory over his current club in the final 12 months ago.

But then, in one of the competition’s greatest shocks, Palace were humbled by non-League Macclesfield in this year’s third round.

Remarkably, Guehi still has a shot at Wembley glory after his January move to City — and a change in the rules regarding cup-tied players — put him in the frame to face Chelsea in Saturday’s final.

The 25-year-old said: “I feel like my football life is just crazy. There’s no consistency to it. It’s just very unpredictable.

“It’s quite fun to be honest — it’s very interesting. I’m glad to be given the opportunity to play in such a prestigious final again.

“And for this football club, I know how much it means to them to win trophies, especially the FA Cup and the history that it has, and also the record breaking, getting to this part of the competition again.

“It’s a really big thing for the football club and I’m glad to be involved in it.”

Guehi has shone in City’s run to an unprecedented fourth successive final having been identified as a future cornerstone of the defence.

The England international could easily have been playing for Liverpool by now had a proposed transfer last summer not collapsed on deadline day.

Being in such high demand further illustrates the nature of his roller-coaster career, having failed to make the grade at Chelsea and ended up at Palace after loan spells with Swansea.

He insists he is not out to prove a point to the Blues this weekend.

“That’s not my mentality,” he said. “I’ve got nothing but gratitude towards Chelsea.”

City are a team in transition with many of the stars of a golden era that peaked with the 2023 treble having moved on and two more, John Stones and Bernardo Silva, departing this summer.

With a domestic treble still a possibility this season, Guehi is confident the future is in good hands.

“I see it day in, day out in training,” he said. “I definitely see the potential. Whether we go on and do it, it’s up to us.”
