Board members say ‘first priority’ under new ownership is to appoint head coach
FERRARI confirmed today Zhou Guanyu will join Antonio Giovinazzi as their reserve drivers for the 2025 Formula One season.
Chinese driver Zhou returns to Maranello, having previously spent four seasons with the Scuderia driver academy, while Italian Giovinazzi will continue on in his support role to Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Zhou is the first driver from China to compete in F1, and spent three years with Sauber, racing under the Alfa Romeo banner in 2022 and 2023.
During December, Zhou had finished eighth in Qatar, the penultimate race of the campaign, scoring Sauber’s only points in 2024.
However the Swiss team, set to become Audi in 2026, have installed Germany’s Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto, the F2 champion, in their cars for next season.
Zhou, 25, will split Ferrari’s reserve driver role alongside Giovinazzi, who has worked with the Scuderia since 2017.
Giovinazzi, 31, will also continue to race in the World Endurance Championship, having won the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours.
Hamilton moved to Ferrari after 12 seasons at Mercedes and his first race for his new team will be in Melbourne on March 16 as the British driver bids to win a record eighth world championship.
