YOUR Party councillors in Glasgow have challenged other parties to back their no cuts “people’s budget” on Tuesday.
Scotland’s local authority is grappling with an almost £50 million budget black hole, driven by decades of cuts and a homelessness crisis that has forced the council to seek permission from the Scottish government to borrow £30m to meet its costs.
To meet the remainder of the gap, Your Party councillors will propose a 5 per cent council tax increase alongside plans for a “route map” to a four-day working week without loss of pay for council staff, working to in-house services, and beginning the process of re-establishing the council as a social landlord.
Hillhead councillor Seonad Hoy said: “For years, Glasgow’s public services have been decimated by austerity, forced upon us by cuts to budgets handed down by the UK and Scottish governments.
“As Your Party councillors, we are taking a stand against any further cuts.”
Govan councillor Dan Hutchison said: “Our message to the SNP, Greens and others is clear: You can choose to further decimate the communities you represent, or invest in change.
“The choice is yours.”
