Far-right activists doxxing teachers, NEU conference hears
Members of the National Education Union (NEU) hold a rally outside the Department for Education (DfE) in London, November 28, 2024

TEACHERS described being doxxed and falsely accused of being a danger to children by far-right extremists as the National Education Union (NEU) reaffirmed its opposition “to the divisive politics promoted by Reform UK” today.

Birmingham delegate Douglas Morgan described how his personally identifiable information was publicly released by Ukip members online after he clashed with them during an event organised by the Socialist Workers Party.

He received texts showing how they “managed to find where my school was and started attacking my school’s Twitter profile,” labelling him a “paedophile and a danger to children” the night before one of NEU’s strikes.

NEU executive member Leigh Seedhouse said: “We have seen a deliberate push to turn flags into weapons, flags are being used to shut down debate to demand loyalty.

“A Reform government … would turbocharge racism. We need to push back on the attempts to turn schools into places of enforced nationalism.”

Brent delegate Jennifer Cooper added that Reform “denies climate change because this denial funds them.”

The union’s annual conference passed a motion instructing the NEU executive to call on districts to affiliate to Stand Up To Racism and the Campaign Against Climate Change and produce literature making the case against the far right.

NEU general secretary Daniel Kebede said: “The NEU has reaffirmed a clear commitment to challenge all forms of racism, fascism and far-right extremism.

“Young people are affected by racism and prejudice. It is important that there is an opportunity during the school week to build positive attitudes and to ensure children and young people can develop the ability to think critically and independently.”
