ENGLAND and Tottenham forward Jess Naz has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in her right knee, the club confirmed yesterday.
The 25-year-old was hurt late in Tottenham’s victory over Aston Villa at Brisbane Road on Sunday and will undergo surgery.
It is the second ACL setback of Naz’s career, having missed out on the 2019-20 WSL campaign with the same injury in her other knee. Naz has been a key figure for the Lilywhites this season starting every WSL match and has won six England caps, featuring in October’s friendlies against Brazil and Australia.
The forward’s injury adds to a growing list of ACL cases in the women’s game. England youngsters Michelle Agyemang and Katie Reid have also suffered season-ending knee injuries, while Keira Walsh recently urged football authorities to “listen to the players” over fixture congestion and its impact on workload.
Since the start of the WSL season, ACL injuries have been confirmed for Agyemang, Maite Oroz, Marie Hobinger, Manu Zinsberger, Sophie Roman Haug, Jill Baijings, Reid and now Naz.
