Djokovic pulls out of Cincinnati Open weeks before US Open starts

NOVAK DJOKOVIC is set to enter the US Open without playing in any warm-up tournaments after he pulled out of the Cincinnati Open on Monday night.

Djokovic has not played since a comprehensive straight-sets loss to Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals on July 11.

The 24-time grand slam champion struggled with a left thigh injury during his one-sided defeat at the All England Club and after he missed the Toronto Masters, the Serbian will now sit out another ATP 1000 event in the shape of the Cincinnati Open.

After being included on the original acceptance list, an updated version on Monday showed Djokovic as a withdrawal.

The next time Djokovic is expected to return to action will be in the US Open mixed doubles after he partnered with Olga Danilovic. The singles competition is set to begin on August 24.

He has won four championships at Flushing Meadows, most recently in 2023. That was also his most recent Grand Slam trophy.
