Counter-protests against the far right to take place in 8 cities this weekend
Activists from Stand Up To Racism Scotland gather in Glasgow's George Square, in a counter protest to a far-right rally, September 7, 2024

PROTESTS will take place this weekend to rally against a far-right group called Unite the Kingdom.

Stand Up to Racism has called counterdemonstrations in London, Liverpool, Derby, Portsmouth, Swansea, Leeds, Nottingham and Ipswich.

Unite the Kingdom uses slogans associated with fascist agitator Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, including “stop the boats” and “save our kids,” and has been linked to the far-right violence which erupted in the summer.

Mr Robinson has called a national demonstration in London on October 26, which is set to be met with fierce resistance.

Stand Up to Racism said this weekend’s demonstrations would be “an important step in laying down a marker that the far right will be opposed.”

Co-convener Weyman Bennett added: “Fascist and far-right groups see Nigel Farage and Reform UK talking their language — racism, Islamophobia and anti-migrant racism.

“We stopped them in August and tomorrow we will be on the streets to stop them again.”
