Coroner names two who died after explosion at home

TWO people who died after an explosion at their home last month were named by the coroner today.

Marlene Mumford, 84, and William Mumford, 90, both died in a fire at the property in Nelson, Caerphilly, south Wales, on December 12.

The inquests into the two deaths were opened at Gwent Coroner’s Court, where senior coroner Caroline Saunders said the provisional cause of death for both was exposure to combustion products of the fire.

Mr Mumford was found dead alongside Ms Mumford when emergency services were called to the property in December.

Emergency services attended the scene of a fire at the property in Nelson after reports of an explosion at around 5.10pm.

The investigation into the fire is continuing, and a final hearing into their deaths will be held on October 7.

The senior coroner said: “There is no evidence of any suspicious circumstances and no suspected third-party involvement.”
