Climate protesters confront Kemi Badenoch at hustings

FIVE protesters confronted Tory MP Kemi Badenoch at a hustings at St Mary’s Church in Saffron Walden on Tuesday over her connection with climate change deniers and polluters.

Hannah, an activist from Stop Polluting Politics who challenged Ms Badenoch, said that “climate breakdown is happening faster than ever.

“Meanwhile politicians like Badenoch continue to stoke up division, schmooze at fancy dinners with lobbyists and hand out subsidies to fossil fuel companies. And why wouldn’t they, when it fills their own pockets with oily cash?

“We need our next government to break the money pipeline and restore our trust by banning MPs from taking oil money.”

The Tories have received £8.4 million since December 2019 from polluters and climate deniers, according to DeSmog.

Last year, Ms Badenoch told The Times that the nation shouldn’t “bankrupt” itself through net-zero targets.

In 2022, she received a £1,000 ticket to a Tory fundraiser from Michael Hintze, one of the funders of the climate-sceptic Global Warming Policy Foundation.

Today, it was reported that Ms Badenoch’s bid to stand in a future Tory leadership contest could be quashed due to delays in postal votes.
