Climate protester Gaie Delap has been told that she must serve a further 20 days in prison

A CLIMATE campaigner has been told she must spend an extra 20 days in prison after being jailed because a security firm did not have an electronic tracking tag small enough for her wrist.

Just Stop Oil protester Gaie Delap,78, was sentenced to 20 months in prison after taking part in a protest in 2022.

She was released on November 18 last year under Home Detention Curfew which involves wearing an electronic locator tag.

Security firm Serco could not fit one to her ankle because of her history of deep vein thrombosis and had none small enough to secure to her wrist.

She was due for release on March 17 but friends say the date has been extended to April 7 because she was “unlawfully at large” while not wearing a tag.

Her brother Mick Delap said questioned why she could not be tracked with any one of the many different forms of monitoring available to the authorities.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “We are bound by law to enforce sentences passed down by the independent judiciary, this includes handing down additional days in custody when the law dictates.”
