FORMER Cynon Valley MP Beth Winter and retired PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka have called for a Your Party all-Wales meeting in the autumn.
More than 23,000 people have signed up in Wales to Your Party, as the new left party announced by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana is provisionally known, and the pair has organised an all-Wales meeting on October 25.
Both Mr Corbyn and Ms Sultana have been invited to attend the meeting, which follows a flurry of local Your Party meetings in Wales.
Their statement, published today, said: “We are keen to move things forward in Wales and have just completed the initial mapping exercise looking at engagement with Your Party at a local level.
“The results are very encouraging and show that people are getting together and meeting across Wales, from Ynys Mon to Cardiff; from Ceredigion to Clwyd, and from Rhondda Cynon Taff to Swansea.”
Already 12 groups across Wales have been identified, and Ms Winter and Mr Serwotka said they were working to co-ordinate existing groups and develop new ones.
“In the coming weeks, we will do our utmost to attend as many local group meetings as we can to keep people informed,” they said.
“We remain committed to ensuring we have the kind of autonomy and self-determination that reflects our needs and demands here in Wales.”
In a tantalising nod towards standing candidates at next year’s Senedd election, the pair said it “will require decisions by all of us.”
Ms Winter and Mr Serwotka encouraged people to “continue with local organising and activities, being active in our communities, working at a grassroots level alongside local people and groups to build a real alternative for the people of Wales.”
