THREE Tory MPs promoted a far-right smear against Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer today by retweeting a doctored video.

The clip, which was originally posted by (the now deleted) far-right account @NJamesWorld, had 239,000 views before the account was suspended by Twitter.

Screenshots seen by the Star show that the account has tweeted Islamophobic and racist posts, and in support of “Tommy Robinson,” real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon.

The highly edited video, using footage from a 2013 interview with Mr Starmer by Channel 5, suggested that he was hesitant to prosecute grooming gangs when he was director of public prosecutions.

Conservative health minister Nadine Dorries, and Conservative MPs Lucy Allan and Maria Caulfield retweeted the doctored video.

Ms Caulfield retweeted the post with the comment: “True face of the Labour leader. #shameful.”

She later deleted her whole Twitter account.

Ms Dorries re-tweeted the doctored video in which he appeared to be listing a series of reasons for not bringing charges. She added that the video was “revealing.”

But Labour said that the video had clearly been “doctored” and that he was actually explaining the flaws in previous guidance to prosecutors which he had withdrawn and replaced.

A Labour source said: “This is a doctored video tweeted by a far-right social-media account. As a government minister, we hope Nadine Dorries acknowledges this and takes it down.”

Ms Dorries later deleted the post, but has kept her Twitter account open.

Miqdaad Versi, spokesman for Muslim Council of Britain, said that Ms Dorries has “a history of propagating far-right narratives.”

He said: “This is part of a pattern that necessitates greater accountability.”

Mr Versi added that she was promoted to the Cabinet despite having posted false narratives about Muslims, and retweeted Mr Yaxley-Lennon, and the far-right For Britain Movement.

Downing Street declined to comment on Tory MPs promoting the video.
