Big thanks to our fundraising hero!
BERNADETTE KEAVENEY salutes Ron Brown on his completion of a 268-mile trek to raise funds for this paper

OUR fundraising walking hero Ron Brown reached Kirk Yetholm on Thursday evening ending his 13-day, 268-mile walk of the Pennine Way.

His trek took 13 days to complete and he ended two days ahead of schedule, pushing himself to the limit on a few days to cover more terrain.

Followers of his Facebook page will have been able to keep abreast of how Ron coped each day and night the ups and downs not just of the hills but his energy and determination.

It was wonderful to see the solidarity of people who live along the trail and fellow walkers offering support and advice.

Ron’s initial target of £1,000 has been surpassed so it has been stretched to £1,500 with the crowdfunding page open until August  15 so if you haven’t already check out the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/RonBrown99), watch the videos and consider making a donation.

Well done Ron — take a bit of time now to rest your back and feet.

What next? Who would like to step forward to be a fundraising hero this summer/autumn? We cannot all do extreme walking or running but how about a garden party, car boot sale or musical event?

Whatever you consider do get in touch and let us know your plans.

It’s another busy weekend for our supporters taking papers to demonstrations and rallies including Grangemouth where workers and the local community are rallying to save the nation’s oil refinery, in London there is a rally in support of Palestine and in Wales it is the start of Eisteddfod.

Thank you to everyone who has arranged papers to these and many more this weekend. Don’t forget to send in a short report of your fundraising activities to me at bernadettekeaveney@peoples-press.com.

Give your support to Ron by donating to his Crowdfunder at https://tinyurl.com/RonPennineWay.
