A HEALTH clinic in Belfast is part of a network of US anti-abortion centres, a damning new report revealed today.
Researchers at Corporate Watch accuse Stanton Healthcare Belfast of being backed by US evangelical firm Stanton Healthcare International, which has links to the far right and anti-abortion causes.
The report also accuses Stanton of “presenting itself as a health and abortion centre [even though] numerous clients reporting bullying, coercion and harassment to dissuade them from terminating their pregnancies.”
The researchers also allege that Stanton preys on vulnerable women coming from war zones such as Ukraine and Sudan.
An End Deportation Belfast spokesperson said: “The existence of ‘fake clinics’ who spread harmful and medically inaccurate disinformation prevents pregnant people from making informed decisions.
“Reproductive coercion and the presence of rogue ‘clinics’ with links to global evangelical anti-abortion networks on our shores is something that requires urgent intervention.”
A spokesperson for the Alliance for Choice said they had spoken with dozens of abortion seekers who have “inadvertently attended Stanton Healthcare, mistaking them for an abortion clinic.”
The spokesperson added: “Horrifically, people are being misled that they are further along in their pregnancy to dissuade them or incorrectly told that they are not even pregnant at all — all in an effort to block abortion care.”
Stanton Healthcare Belfast was approached for comment.
