Scottish workers accuse Trump of leaving them on poverty pay

SCOTTISH workers have accused Donald Trump of leaving them on poverty pay.

An anonymous employee has told the Daily Record that management at the US president’s golf resort in Turnberry force workers to “bank” 170 hours in overtime before they are paid for it.

However, many workers aren’t required during quiet periods, meaning that it takes a long time to receive enough hours to gain the money.

This has made some claim the salary can end up being pushed below the minimum wage.

Unite organiser Bryan Simpson has urged workers to contact the union confidentially, adding: “The treatment of workers at one of Scotland’s most luxurious resorts is disgraceful but not surprising because it’s owned by Donald Trump, who has a history of not paying workers what they’re due.

“However, workers are fighting back across the Trump estate.”

Turnberry general manager Ralph Porciani said: “Our employment contracts were introduced by Starwood Hotels and Resorts and have been in place for just over 17 years.”
