Scottish care service ‘not fit for purpose,’ unions warn
SCOTLAND’S National Care Service is “not fit for purpose,” Scotland’s TUC said today, calling for the withdrawal of proposed legislation on the system.
The National Care Service Bill, a flagship proposal of the SNP election manifesto last year, has been under increasing criticism from local authorities, unions and health boards over its proposed funding, structure and workforce planning.
Under proposals, care workers would be transferred out of local authority control with no assurances of the pay, terms and conditions of over 75,000 local government workers, according to the STUC.
