Family of activist jailed in Egypt say he is still alive
Activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah speaks during a conference at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, Sept. 22, 2014.

THE family of jailed human rights activist Alaa Abdel-Fattah says they have received confirmation that he is still alive.

Fears for the British-Egyptian national had been growing after he stepped up a hunger strike on the first day of the climate summit and stopped drinking water.

Since then Mr Abdel-Fattah’s mother had not received a note from him inside the prison, sparking fears that he was no longer alive.
