FAST FOOD giants went head to head this weekend as far-right activists’ udder panic over milkshakes continued to deepen.

After McDonalds complied with police advice to stop selling the drinks at a restaurant in Edinburgh ahead of a Brexit Party rally, Burger King tweeted that it would be “selling milkshakes all weekend.”

The popular drink has taken on cult status in the protest movement since one was thrown at former English Defence League leader “Tommy Robinson,” real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, earlier this month.

The wet-behind-the-ears independent candidate was subsequently  joined in the “milkshake, duck” club by Ukip rep Carl Benjamin.

Benjamin, who styles himself as “Sargon of Akkad,” is best known for making comments about raping Labour MP Jess Phillips and was milkshaked in Salisbury yesterday.

With hundreds of Brexit Party supporters and dozens of protesters arriving at Edinburgh’s Corn Exchange for an EU elections rally on Friday, staff at the neighbouring McDonald's were told not to serve dairy-based products.

Printed signs displayed at the restaurant said: “We will not be selling milkshakes or ice creams tonight. This is due to a police request given recent events.”

Police Scotland refused to comment on the apparent demand, but a member of staff, who did not want to be named, described the situation as “ridiculous.”

After the police's intervention in Edinburgh, Burger King’s UK Twitter account posted: “Dear people of Scotland.

“We’re selling milkshakes all weekend. Have fun. Love BK #justsaying.”
