Azerbaijan arrests former Nagorno-Karabakh government head as thousands flee region

AZERBAIJAN said today that it has arrested the former head of the Nagorno-Karabakh government as the country enforces its grip on the region.

Ruben Vardanyan, a billionaire businessman, served as the head of the regional government in 2022 before resigning earlier this year.

He had been trying to cross into Armenia when he was caught.
