RADICAL policing reforms were proposed by Labour yesterday to rebalance the “odds stacked against ordinary families” seeking justice after the death of a loved one.

Shadow home secretary Andy Burnham launched a cross-party campaign in light of the verdict last month on the 1989 Hillsborough disaster — that 96 football fans had been unlawfully killed in the stadium crush.

His plans were announced on the day that Hillsborough campaigner Margaret Aspinall, whose son James died in the tragedy, addressed Parliament about the 27 years bereaved families spent struggling with the police and justice system in the search for the truth.
