Venezuela: Opposition fails to stop constitutional elections
Maduro urges world to respect vote despite right wing’s violent boycott

VENEZUELAN President Nicolas Maduro appealed to the world yesterday to accept the results of his country’s constituent assembly elections despite the right-wing opposition boycotting the process.

The opposition has challenged a government ban on political protests in force until tomorrow, urging its supporters to set up barricades, block roads and take over the country.

Before polling stations opened yesterday, opposition activists began obstructing roads in the capital to disrupt the democratic process.
