West Ham women denied chance to play at the Boleyn
West Ham yesterday cancelled a proposed game between their women’s team and an All-Stars side at the Boleyn Ground next month, despite fans being in favour of it.
The fixture had been proposed for June 5 but the club bowed down to pressure from fans who felt the Premier League match between the Hammers and Manchester United should be the last game played at the Boleyn.
An online poll conducted by the club showed that 52 per cent wanted the game to go ahead but a section of West Ham supporters felt that the women’s team had their opportunity at the ground earlier in the season, when they beat rivals Tottenham 1-0, with one fan saying on social media that the decision “put women back in their place.”
