LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS: Age Cymru has released its latest research about how lonely older people in Wales are.

The survey also revealed nearly 85,000 older people will eat alone this Christmas and more than 112,000 said Christmas Day is their hardest day of the year. 

Age Cymru’s Chief Executive Victoria Lloyd said: “The Age Cymru Partnership is working hard to help alleviate loneliness throughout the whole year by providing vital friendship and support services.

COMMUNITY CARE: Health Minister Eluned Morgan announced £8 million extra for community care to support people to stay well at home and reduce pressure on hospitals.

The extra money is for this winter and is intended to support people at greatest risk to receive care at or close to home and reduce pressure on hospitals.  

The money will increase community health and social care workforce capacity in the evenings and on weekends including increasing the hours of community nurses and end-of-life care clinical nurse specialists.

 

ROAD ACCIDENT: Three men have died after a serious road traffic collision in Coedely, Rhondda Cynon Taf, on Monday evening, South Wales Police said.
The crash involved a bus and an Audi A1.

Three men were declared dead at the scene. Police identified them as Callum Griffiths, 19, from Porth and Jesse Owen and Morgan Smith, both 18 and from Tonypandy.

Two other men, aged 18 and 19, were taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, with life-threatening injuries. The road has remained closed while police investigations into the collision continue.
