TRADE unionists will march through Pontypridd in Wales tomorrow in protest at privatisation of the area’s care services.
Members of local government unions Unison, Unite and GMB opposed a decision by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to privatise the last remaining 10 per cent of the council’s social care services.
Unison Cwm Taf local government officer Peter Crews said: “There’s no evidence privatising care services will save money or improve quality.
“Public money should be spent on providing the very best service, not siphoned off by private companies for profit.”
Unison Cymru regional organiser Carmen Bezzina said: “The protest is an opportunity for staff and the hundreds of people affected to make it clear to the council that they oppose this move.”
The march starts 11am in Pontypridd town centre. Speakers include Cynon Valley Labour MP Beth Winter.
Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council was invited to comment.
