GREECE: Two refugees were killed and eight were rescued in Greece today after a dinghy crashed into rocks in high winds on the island of Lesbos, local authorities said.
The incident occurred near the resort town of Thermi on the east of the island, facing the nearby coast of Turkey.
Authorities said a search has been launched for others believed to be on the boat.
PAKISTAN: About a dozen armed militants attacked a Pakistani police checkpoint on a highway in the country’s north-west before dawn today, killing three police officers and a civilian before fleeing the scene, authorities said.
The attack on the Lachi checkpoint along the Indus Highway in Kohat, a district in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan, triggered a shootout, according to Jabir Khan, a local police official.
AFGHANISTAN: Islamic State have claimed responsibility for a minivan explosion in the Afghan capital on Tuesday that killed at least three people.
The militant group said it detonated an explosive on a vehicle belonging to employees of Afghanistan’s main prison in Kabul, killing and wounding about 10 people, according to a statement released by the group shortly after the attack.
POLAND: Polish police on Tuesday arrested two politicians convicted of abuse of power who had taken refuge for hours in the palace of President Andrzej Duda, in a dramatic escalation of a standoff between the new and previous governments.
President Duda welcomed the members of the former ruling party into the presidential palace as police went to their homes to arrest them. Polish media reported the men were arrested inside the palace.
