India’s Bumrah tops ICC Test bowling rankings for first time

JASPRIT BUMRAH has become the first India paceman to top the Test bowling rankings following his match-winning turn against England in Visakhapatnam.

Bumrah’s match haul of nine for 91 was instrumental in India levelling the five-match series at 1-1 and he has leapt three places to oust team-mate Ravichandran Ashwin at the summit of the International Cricket Council’s classification.

He is just the fourth bowler from his country to attain the number one position after spinners Ashwin, who has spent the past 11 months at the top of the pile, Ravindra Jadeja and the late Bishan Bedi.

England’s James Anderson has climbed one place to seventh in the bowling ratings after taking five wickets in the match in the second Test.

Joe Root, who has a highest score of 29 after four innings in India, drops one place to third in the batting standings.
