SWANSEA MARCH: An all-Wales march for Gaza is taking place at noon on Saturday in Castle Square, Swansea.
Stop the War Cymru co-chair Lujane Hanzeh said: ”People in Wales have been marching for peace since October and are calling for an immediate ceasefire to stop the slaughter in Gaza.
“We have held vigils around Wales and marched in Cardiff and Newport. We are now taking our calls for peace to the streets of Swansea.”
CASTING VOTE: The Senedd has narrowly rejected calls to declare a health emergency due to the “existential threat” facing the NHS.
With the vote deadlocked at 26-26 the Senedd’s speaker Elin Jones used her casting vote against the Plaid Cymru motion in line with convention.
Plaid Cymru’s Mabon ap Gwynfor had urged the Welsh government to recognise an unfolding emergency.
Wales Health Minister Eluned Morgan said: “I’m not really sure what we hope to achieve by declaring a health emergency.”
BORDER CONFLICT: Welsh Health Minister Eluned Morgan today contested claims that waiting lists for the NHS in Wales are worse than England saying there was “no evidence” to support claims that A&E waiting times in Wales are longer.
The row came after former Conservative Welsh secretary Alun Cairns claimed at Prime Minister’s questions that patients in Wales “have to wait longer than patients in England.”
RIVER POLLUTION: A court case at the Cardiff Civil Justice Centre heard the UK’s Environment Agency deny it had failed to stop farmers from polluting the river Wye.
Anti-pollution charity River Action took the ministry to court for a judicial review this week, claiming it allows farmers to release destructive levels of nutrients from chicken manure into the Wye – Britain’s fourth-longest river.
Mr Justice Dove said he would make his written decision in due course but did not set a date.
