MEN’S FOOTBALL: Lee Bonis scored twice as reigning champions Larne beat Glentoran 3-0 to stay three points clear in the Irish Premiership as second-placed Linfield saw off Ballymena 2-0.

Cliftonville fell further off the pace following their surprise 3-1 defeat at Dungannon, Crusaders claimed a 2-0 win over Glenavon, Loughall came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 with Carrick Rangers and bottom club Newry lost 2-0 at home to Coleraine.

NETBALL: Champions Loughborough maintained their perfect start to the new Super League season with an emphatic 83-46 win over Team Bath, while last year’s runners-up London held off Surrey Storm 62-46.

Hannah Passmore’s 45 goals and 100 per cent shooting record could not stop Cardiff slipping to a 63-52 home defeat by Manchester, Saracens held off Leeds 63-52 and the Severn Stars swatted aside Strathclyde 67-38.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Wigan won a fifth World Club Challenge title after Australian champions Penrith were denied a last-gasp try by the match officials in their 16-12 defeat.

First-half scores from Abbas Miski and Kruise Leeming, and Jake Wardle’s debatable second-half try sealed victory for Wigan head coach Matt Peat, who has now won every British rugby league trophy available in just over two seasons as boss.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Harry Kane netted a brace, including the added time winner, as Bayern Munich edged past Leipzig 2-1 for their first win in three league games that keeps them second in the Bundesliga, eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who beat relegation-threatened Mainz 2-1.

Third placed Stuttgart were held 1-1 by struggling FC Cologne, and bottom club Darmstadt had two goals overruled by the VAR in their 1-1 draw at Bremen.

CYCLING: Slovenian Jan Tratnik continued his superb early season form with a win at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad by three seconds from Germany’s Nils Politt. Tratnik’s Team Visma/Lease A Bike teammate Wout van Aert took third.

Tom Pidcock was the highest placed Briton in eighth. Marianne Vos beat Lotte Kopecky in a sprint finish to win the women’s event, with Elisa Longo Borghini third and Briton Pfeiffer Georgi two minutes back in 13th place
