Lowkey travels to Derby for Chris Williamson election rally

MUSICIAN and anti-war activist Lowkey travels to Derby tomorrow for a campaign rally to elect Workers Party deputy leader Chris Williamson.

Mr Williamson, who was MP for Derby North from 2010-15 and again from 2017-19, is now running for the Derby South seat recently vacated by Margaret Beckett.

Lowkey said the treatment of the former Labour MP, who was hounded out of that party in 2019 after he said Labour should “stop apologising” for its anti-racist record, was “one of the worst instances of the witch hunt” against Jeremy Corbyn supporters of those years, and pointed to his record standing up for justice at Westminster, including for victims of the Grenfell fire and as an anti-imperialist opposing propaganda against Venezuela and advocating for Palestinian rights.

“Lowkey has been an unflinching champion of the Palestinian people and outstanding advocate for social justice, so I’m absolutely delighted and honoured to have his support,” Mr Williamson told the Morning Star.

The rally is at noon at Derby’s Pakistan Community Centre, DE23 8PB.
