Protester detained for holding a placard stating ‘Oil kills’ at Heathrow airport

A POLICE crackdown on Just Stop Oil protesters targeting London’s Heathrow airport continued on Saturday when officers and security guards surrounded a protester holding a placard stating: “Oil kills.”

The young female protester and two people filming the protest at terminal five were detained then removed from the airport.

Just Stop Oil, which declares itself part of “an international uprising taking non-violent collective action at airports to protect our families and communities,” said the three activists had been told they were in breach of an injunction.

On Wednesday last week 10 Just Stop Oil protesters were arrested at Heathrow and appeared in court at Westminster the same day. Eight were remanded in custody.

An unnamed Just Stop Oil protester said: “While the Earth broke the record for the hottest day not once but twice this week, the UK police and judiciary are continuing to arrest and imprison those raising the alarm.”

The Metropolitan Police was invited to comment.
