ENGLAND forward Beth Mead has joined Manchester City on a deal until summer 2029, the Women’s Super League club announced today.
The 31-year-old arrives at the club after leaving WSL rivals Arsenal last month, where she won the league title in the 2018-19 season and helped them secure Champions League glory in May last year, as well as winning three League Cups during a nine-year stint in north London.
Mead began her career with Sunderland and became the youngest WSL Golden Boot winner at the age of 20 before signing for Arsenal in January 2017.
On the international stage, Mead has been capped 81 times for England and was part of their European Championship-winning squads in 2022 and 2025.
During the 2022 edition on home soil, the forward was named player of the tournament and finished as the top goalscorer with six to her name, as well as topping the assist charts with five.
Speaking about her move, Mead told the City website: “I’m very proud to be here. Obviously, City had an amazing season last year and I am excited to start a new chapter here.
“I think the way City plays suits me really well and I feel like it can get something extra out of my game.
“Speaking to the manager, I think it was a place where I think I can really fit into, help and bring a different dynamic to the team, so it was a no-brainer for me.”
Last season, City were crowned WSL champions for the first time since 2016 after finishing four points clear of Arsenal at the summit.
They then completed a domestic double with a 4-0 triumph over Brighton in the Women’s FA Cup final at the end of May.
