Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, London, March 22, 2026

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Keir Starmer and the Football Supporters’ Association have issued a joint statement calling for Arsenal’s Champions League final against PSG to be shown free-to-air. The Prime Minister said he was “saddened” that the showpiece European final will not be available without a subscription in Britain for the first time in the competition’s 34-year history. The statement urges broadcaster TNT Sports to reverse its decision and make tomorrow’s Budapest final freely accessible.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Hull KR forward Rhyse Martin announced today that he will retire at the end of the 2026 season. The 33-year-old was integral to Rovers’ treble-winning campaign last year and is set to feature in the Challenge Cup final against Wigan tomorrow. Previously, Martin, a Papua New Guinea international, was part of Leeds’ 2020 Challenge Cup-winning team, and equalled the record for 41 consecutive successful goal kicks in 2021.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Mark Hughes has left his role as Carlisle manager by mutual consent after failing to win promotion from the National League. The former Manchester City, Blackburn and Stoke boss was unable to keep the Cumbrians in the EFL in 2024-25 but guided them to a club-record 95 points in the following season. However, that was only enough for third place behind York and Rochdale, before a play-off semi-final defeat to Boreham Wood ended their hopes.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Fifa’s ticketing practices for the 2026 World Cup are being investigated by chief legal officers in the United States. The attorneys general of New York and New Jersey say Fifa must respond to allegations of “artificially inflating prices” and “misleading fans” during ticket sales, and has been subpoenaed for information. Reports claim supporters may have been misled over seat locations, with public statements and ticket releases potentially contributing to rising costs.
