Edwards tells players who missed out on T20 World Cup squad ‘be ready’
England head coach Charlotte Edwards during a nets session at Lord's Cricket Ground, London, July 18, 2025

ENGLAND head coach Charlotte Edwards has told the likes of Tammy Beaumont and Davina Perrin not to give up on playing a role in this summer’s T20 World Cup squad.

Edwards named a 15-strong squad for the home tournament, which begins at Edgbaston on June 12, but for every piece of good news she delivered, there was bad news for another hopeful.

Beaumont, a 35-year-old veteran with over 250 appearances to her name, was the most experienced player to miss the cut, while 19-year-old Perrin will remain an uncapped rising star for a little longer.

And while both will be sore about missing out, Edwards has made it clear that the door is open should replacements be needed along the way.

“It’s a horrible part of the job, I don’t think there’s ever an easy one,” she said of the conversations with those who went unselected.

“They’ve all got a goal of playing in a World Cup and they all worked incredibly hard, so I don’t take them lightly.

“What I’ve said to all the players that missed out is ‘be ready.’ I think we know from previous World Cups that people have missed out very late on, or you get injuries. You’ve got to be ready to take the chance if and when it arises.”
