THE will she, won’t she run in the feature race on day one at Cheltenham question has finally been answered and Lossiemouth will at last run in the big one, the Champion Hurdle this afternoon.

The positive is that she comes here in cracking form despite being turned over by Brighterdaysahead in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown. It is also interesting that Willie Mullins has put the cheek pieces on her to get her to hurdle more fluently in this test of speed. That point is backed up by her poor run in the Christmas Hurdle when she was always on the back foot behind Constitution Hill in 2024. On the negative side, the New Course has always served her best.

Her Dublin conqueror has blown out twice at Cheltenham, but for me there were excuses on both occasions and her chance much depends on the state of the ground, the slower the better.

The New Lion needs to sharpen up his game at this trip, while holder Golden Ace looks sure to be placed if running to her best form, which can almost be guaranteed due to her consistency.

But I would rather have an each-way play on the complete outsider WORKAHEAD (4.00) who has always been held in the highest regard by Henry De Bromhead. He won his maiden in style, but then was off the track for a substantial time on two occasions. However, I was really taken by his second to Storm Heart in the Red Mills and he remains thoroughly unexposed.

The opening Supreme Novices Hurdle looks very deep but I agree with connections that MIGHTY PARK (1.20) could be very special. Some of his fractions from his maiden win at Fairyhouse were superb and although there is cracking opposition in Old Park Star, Talk the Talk and Mydaddypaddy, I think the tip could be head and shoulders above them and I think the only thing holding him back could be lack of experience.

I much prefer KARGESE (2.00) each-way for the Arkle Chase over the sexy horses Kopek Des Bordes and Lulamba, while PIC ROC (5.20) is quite a strong fancy in the National Hunt Chase. He was so unlucky in the Gold Cup at Newbury, but was impressive when beating a lesser field at Sandown Park.

The big factor with him is putting in a clear round because we know he stays well and a nice jumping performance should see him push the likes of Newton Tornado, Wade Out and possibly his biggest rival Iceberg Theory. The last named will also relish this distance and could be worth a saver from a yard that does well here.
