WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Everton have sacked manager Brian Sorensen and put Scott Phelan in charge for the rest of the season.

The Toffees, who beat Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday and sit ninth in the Women’s Super League after 14 matches, confirmed today that they had “parted company” with Sorensen, who had been charge of the Merseyside club since 2022.

Assistants Stephen Neligan and Ashley Tootle have also departed, with under-18s coach Phelan placed in charge for the remainder of the campaign.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: Katie Boulter is through to the quarter-finals of the Ostrava Open. The British number four, who has plummeted down the rankings after a disappointing 2025, beat Viktorija Golubic 6-2 6-2.

It was her best performance for some time as she dominated her Swiss opponent throughout. She will face either Rebecca Sramkova or Linda Fruhvirtova in the last eight.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Swansea Council has threatened legal action against the Welsh Rugby Union and Ospreys owners Y11 Sport and Media and called for an immediate pause to the current restructure of Welsh rugby.

The future of Swansea-based Ospreys has been plunged into uncertainty after Y11 emerged as the preferred bidders to purchase Cardiff from the WRU.

Four-time league champions Ospreys have only been given guarantees as a professional side until June 2027 amid WRU plans to cut one of their four men’s regional sides.

SNOOKER: Ronnie O’Sullivan edged a scrappy encounter against Joe O’Connor in the first round of the World Grand Prix.

O’Sullivan hit three half-century breaks on his way to a 5-3 win in Hong Kong. World number one Judd Trump was dumped out, however, by Yuan Sijun.

The Chinese put in a dominant performance, setting the tone for a 5-2 triumph with a 103-break in the opening frame.
