CAMPAIGNERS, trade unionists, and grassroots groups will take to the streets next Sunday to defend Liverpool Women’s hospital and demand urgent action to rebuild the NHS.
Liverpool MPs Kim Johnson and Ian Byrne are among those due to speak at the protest, which coincides with the opening day of the Labour conference.
Liverpool Women’s is the largest hospital of its kind in Britain. It serves some of the country’s most deprived communities, but suffers chronic underfunding thanks to the country’s inadequate national maternity tariff.
At the same time, billions are squandered on private contracts with firms like Palantir.
Research by Every Doctor shows Labour has pocketed four times more in donations from private healthcare-linked donors than all other parties combined.
Protesters are demanding full public funding for the hospital and urgent investment in maternity care.
A working group is reviewing the hospital’s future, but campaigners say they have been excluded from the process.
The march sets off from Liverpool Lime Street station at 11am on September 28, heading to the Albert Dock.
