Your Party supporters invited to 'Glasgow branch' launch event

YOUR Party Glasgow will be launched at a public event in the city next month, supporters of Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s new socialist party announced today.

More than 800,000 people have signed up to the left-wing movement announced by the leading socialist MPs on July 24.

Supporters in Glasgow have been encouraged to join the launch event and social event in the city’s Renfield Centre on September 5 from 6.30pm, ahead of Your Party’s founding conference planned in November.

They said in a founding statement: “Glaswegians are champing at the bit for change. We are ready to play our part in building a new democracy from the grassroots up.

“This means not only how society is run but also how our party is built. It must be democratic, accountable and rooted in communities and for the working class.

“We agree that Glasgow, Scotland and all other regions and branches should bear equitable responsibilities, have organisational and decision-making autonomy, and recognise the need to build bridges and a working partnership across the left.

“This is only the beginning. We know there are more folk out there just as passionate about real change. We want you with us. It’s Your Party after all!”

More than 300 people have backed an online petition calling on Your Party’s leadership to share membership data to help form local branches ahead of its founding conference.

Give Us The Tools crew spokesman Alan Story said that the Your Party supporters group is “very glad to see one more local group of left-wing activists getting together and taking the first step in forming an official Your Party branch for the future.”
