YET another destitute member of the Carpenters Estate community came forward yesterday in support of the Focus E15 Mothers and their plight.
Young Saffron is the daughter of an estate resident evicted earlier this year.
The experience of her mother’s struggle for a home has turned Saffron into a housing activist, involved with the Focus E15 occupation from the start.
At yesterday’s rally in front of Bow County Court, Saffron said her mum and five siblings were made to leave their flat and move into private accommodation.
But soon enough the situation became unattainable and they were placed in a bed & breakfast nearby.
“A complete pile of shit,” Saffron said.
“There’s lots of mould, there is no bloody plumbing, electric has been off for two weeks now.”
The minor told protesters how on October 10, Newham Council will attempt to move Saffron’s mum and her five kids to Birmingham into a two-bedroom flat.
From the audience there were shouts of “shame” and “give her a flat on the Carpenters Estate.”
But Saffron shared a message of hope with protesters: “All I want you guys to do is to keep your heads up and carry on fighting.”
She said that despite the occupation of 40 Doran Walk coming to an end soon, the mums were not about to stop fighting.
“As long as we have people behind us this campaign will go running until the day we win,” she concluded as people cheered euphorically.
