INDIAN Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine during a visit to Poland today.
Mr Modi pledged Indian backing for such moves and said that no conflict can be solved on the battlefield.
“We support dialogue and diplomatic effort” to restore peace and stability “as soon as possible,” Mr Modi said following talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Mr Tusk stressed that India could play a very important role in bringing an end to the war.
Sitting on the eastern flank of Nato and the European Union, Poland is concerned about the two-year-old war across its eastern border and has provided support to the Kiev government.
Mr Modi, whose country is a strategic partner of Russia, and Mr Tusk held talks on security, the Ukraine war and invigorating bilateral ties.
Mr Tusk and Mr Modi said that the visit, which marks 70 years of official bilateral relations, had opened doors to co-operation in the IT, security and military industries.
An agreement was signed to facilitate the mobility of specialised workers between the two countries.
Mr Modi is due to travel to Kiev on Friday to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
