JEREMY CORBYN has told Boris Johnson to “jog on” as he assured Labour supporters in Liverpool that the next general election is “ours to win.”

Speaking at the Grand Central Hall, the Labour leader received rapturous applause after thanking Liverpool for being a “city of music, culture and socialism.”

He spoke about the stark inequalities that exist in Liverpool, including the fact that a third of Liverpudlian children live in poverty. 

He said: “You all know people that can’t make ends meet.”

“Surely the fifth-richest country in the world can offer our young people something better?”

Mr Corbyn said: “I want to lead a Labour government that will challenge the environmental crisis, that will challenge the housing crisis, give young people that hope for the future, and say to Boris Johnson and company: jog on with your daft ideas.

“We will, as a movement, come together. Get ready for the fight of your lives.”

After calling on party activists to ready themselves for a general election, he said: “We’ll do it ourselves through social media.

“We’ll do it ourselves through our campaigns.

“We’ll do it ourselves by creating that spirit of confidence that it is ours to win and ours to achieve.

“I am utterly determined that we are ready for an election and, above all, to win an election and elect a Labour government.”

Following the rally, local Labour activist Alan Gibbons said: “I am very proud of our city tonight after the Labour rally.

“Liverpool has always stood up for Corbyn through thick and thin.”
