Watchdog to investigate election of BBC chairman following concerns over role in helping Johnson secure loan

THE public appointments watchdog is to investigate the election of BBC chairman Richard Sharp following concerns over his role in helping Boris Johnson secure a loan.

Commissioner for public appointments William Shawcross said today that he is to review the way competition for the post was run to ensure it followed Whitehall rules.

It followed a letter from shadow culture secretary Lucy Powell asking for an investigation.
