THE number of young people not in education, employment or training (Neet) has seen an “alarming” rise in recent months, official figures published today reveal.
There were 724,000 16 to 24-year-olds recorded as being Neet in the three months to September 2022 — up from 711,000 in the previous quarter, the Office for National Statistics warned.
The increase, made up entirely by women, means 10.6 per cent of young people are now “inactive,” up 0.2 percentage points compared to the three months to June last year, the independent body said.
