Labour leader hits out at Chancellor for ‘dressing stagnation as stability’
Labour leader Keir Starmer speaks during Prime Minister's Questions in the House of Commons, London. Picture date: Wednesday March 15, 2023

CHANCELLOR Jeremy Hunt’s Budget is “dressing up stagnation as stability,” Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said today, warning that it puts Britain “on a path of managed decline.”

Sir Keir insisted that it was “unacceptable” for the government to use the war in Ukraine as “a blanket excuse for failure.”

Speaking in the Commons following the Budget announcement, he said: “The war didn’t ban onshore wind, the war didn’t scrap our home insulation scheme, the war didn’t run down our gas storage facilities.
