Over a million people at risk of no ID to cast their votes

OVER a million people are at risk of not having identification on July 4 after just 57,000 applications were made for Voter Authority Certificates (VACs), according to official figures.

Application deadlines for VACs, used at polling stations as proof of identity by people who do not have any of the accepted forms of ID needed to vote, was 5pm on Wednesday.

There have been 214,051 applications for VACs since January 2023, when they were introduced.
