MEN’S CRICKET: As two-time defending champions Surrey extended their lead in County Championship Division One to 23 points with a 145-run victory over Essex, Gloucester and Glamorgan tied on the very last ball of their Division Two game. Chasing a world record total of 593 to win Glamorgan captain Sam Northeast hit 187 before last man Jamie McIlroy was caught behind with Glamorgan all out for 592 and the scores level.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has signed a contract extension until 2026. The Dutchman’s position was under scrutiny during an underwhelming 2023-24 Premier League campaign in which United finished eighth. He changed the feeling around the club by guiding his side to FA Cup success, and United have now offered him a longer deal. Ten Hag said: “I am very pleased to have reached agreement with the club to continue working together.”
MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Super League action resumes tomorrow evening with table-toppers Wigan up against Leigh in a Greater Manchester derby.
