WOMEN’S CYCLING: Lifeplus-Wahoo, Britain’s most successful and longest-running UCI women’s cycling team, has withdrawn from all racing after failing to raise enough financial sponsorship support following its omission from this year’s Tour de Femmes.

The team had already suffered a huge setback before this year’s Tour of Britain when all of its bikes were stolen.

Team member Kate Richardson is the current British track individual pursuit champion.

MEN’S CRICKET: Slow left-armer Dunith Wellalage took 5-27 as Sri Lanka thumped one-day cricket’s top ranked team India by 110 runs to seal a 2-0 series victory.

Avishka Fernando top-scored with 97 from 104 balls as Sri Lanka posted 248-7 before the Indians were skittled for 138 in just 26.1 overs.

Sri Lanka begin their tour of England next week before the first test starts at Old Trafford on August 21.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: The new Cymru Premier season kicks off tomorrow evening with Newtown taking on Aberystwyth.

Newtown finished fourth last term while Aberystwyth contrived another last day escape from relegation.

Barry Town meet Bala and Cardiff Met visit Flint Town tomorrow before Connah’s Quay play Haverfordwest and league new boys Llansawel face Penybont on Sunday.

The match between defending champions The New Saints and Caernarfon has been postponed.

MEN’S CYCLING: Magnus Cort (Uno-X) won Wednesday’s final stage at the Arctic Race of Norway to seal the general classification victory 17 seconds ahead of Clement Champouisson with Kevin Vermaerke two seconds further back in third.

Harrison Wood was the highest placed British rider, 45 seconds behind Cort in 17th place. Chris Froome finished more than 24 minutes off the pace in 89th position.
