Unite delivers inflation beating pay rise for Wincanton drivers

DELIVERY drivers with Scottish firm Wincanton are celebrating after winning a 10 per cent pay increase.

About 30 lorry drivers at Bellshill in North Lanarkshire in Scotland are members of union Unite.

The union has negotiated a 7 per cent pay increase plus 3 per cent next year.

Inflation stood at 2.2 per cent in August.

The drivers will also be paid for a full nine-hour shift on jobs which take fewer hours to complete.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “This is an excellent deal providing a significant pay boost to our HGV drivers.

“Unite continues to deliver better jobs, pay and conditions for our driver membership.”

Unite industrial officer Andrew Brown said: “The inflation-beating pay increase for Unite’s Wincanton drivers at Bellshill is a deal which received the emphatic support of our membership.

“It also delivers on full daily pay and a commitment to improve the wider terms and conditions of our members.”
